CCF Clevises

Our clevises are manufactured to meet the dimensional and load ratings in accordance to the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Manual of Steel Construction. Carbon and alloy steel clevises are forged per ASTM A668, Stainless steel clevises are forged per ASTM A473.

Cleveland City Forge clevises meet state and federal safety and funding standards and project specifications from the world’s leading engineering and architectural firms, ensuring the quality and timeliness demanded in today’s competitive world.

Length adjustment for Clevis and Rod Assembly may be achieved by RH/LH thread pairing or by the use of Cleveland City Forge Turnbuckle Assemblies in combination with Threaded Rods and Clevis Assemblies.

Working Loads

Maximum working loads have been established with a design factor of 5:1 or 3:1 (AISC) using the maximum pin diameter, the resulting net area of the eye at the pin hole, and the expected ultimate tensile strength of C-1035 steel. The maximum tap size (U dimension) shown in Table II is for reference purposes only and should be used only to determine the largest tap diameter the clevis may accommodate without considering the pin diameter. Use Table I to select the proper combination of tap size and pin diameter for any given size of clevis.  Table III is provided for reference that indicates the maximum Grip, Pin & Tap sizes for each Clevis size.

For any combination of tap size and pin diameter shown, the pin in double shear will develop the strength of the rod if both the rod and pin are made from steel having the same physical properties. The pin must be investigated for bending. If inadequate, a larger diameter pin must be selected.

If the pin is made from steel with physical properties lower in value than the steel used for the rod, the pin may not develop the strength of the rod and either shear or bend. A larger pin diameter would then be required.

Order Requirements

Use Table I to specify your order by choosing your application rod size (maximum tap size U in Table I) and maximum working load, which should be less than the Rated Capacity in Table I.

  1. Specify LH or RH thread.
  2. Specify material.
  3. Specify finish.
  4. Specify applicable pin order with Cleveland City Forge Clevis Pins.
